Beside The Sea

A social documentary project showing a snippet of the great British day out at the seaside. I've always enjoyed the seaside, even more so now I have a family of my own. There is something that feels very traditional about it, nostalgic but at the same time it has an air of tackiness. We pay over the odds for under par seaside goodies and the food (with the odd exception) is usually lacking. The arcades and amusements are there to entice our young ones and the bright lights and whirly sounds do a great job of that but I often leave out of pocket, feeling like the most unluckiest guy in town. All very stereotypical of course and truth be told we know what we're letting ourselves in for when we battle the lines of traffic heading for the coast at the slightest hint of sun. I find people fascinating, especially when they're savouring a moment, candidly enjoying their day going about their business. Click the images to open that particular set of pictures
